Today the Council of
State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan held
solemn ceremony of announcing and awarding the winners of competition on the
“Best NGO Project of 2009” and the “Best NGO Covering Media of 2009”.
The ceremony
was opened by Chairman of the Council and member of the Milli Majlis Azay
Guliyev, who spoke about NGO activities in 2009 and NGO-mass media relations.
Extensive
information on State support to civil society institutions was given by Head of
Public and Political Issues Department of Presidential Administration of the
Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Hasanov.
According to
monitoring conducted by independent expert organizations and staff of the
Council’s Secretariat the following projects were announced as winners of the
“Best NGO Project of 2009” competition:
- “Developing
Internet Sites and Informational Strategy to Convey Realities of Nagorno
Karabakh”.
The project was implemented by the Society of Humanitarian Research
headed by Avaz Hasanov.
The Council’s award was presented by Minister of Culture and Tourism
Abulfaz Garayev.
- “Establishment
of Resource Center for the Youth Leaving Public Children Care
Institutions”
The project was implemented by the “SOS” Children’s Village
Association of Azerbaijan.
The award was presented to National Director of the Association Farqana
Mammadova by Chairwoman of the State Committee for Women, Family and Children
Affairs Hijran Huseynova.
- “Lawyer’s
Library: Publication of Source Books for Law Enforcement Bodies”.
The project was implemented by the Azerbaijan Lawyers Confederation.
The award was presented to Chairman of the Confederation Ali Huseynov by
Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov.
According to the results of monitoring conducted at the request of
the Council by the Azerbaijan Media Development Center, the following mass media
representatives won the “Best Media Highlighting NGO Activity in 2009”
competition in the following nominations:

TV and Radio Broadcasting Company
- Azerbaijan
TV and Radio Broadcasting Joint Stock Company
- ANS
Independent Media and Broadcasting Company

The awards were presented by Head of Public and Political Issues
Department of Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali
Hasanov, Head of Azerbaijan Office of OSCE Ali Bilge Cankorel, Ambassador of the
Turkish Republic Hulusi Kilich, Chairman of the National TV and Radio Committee
Nushirevan Maharramov and Ambassador of Japan Masamutsi Oki.

awards to heads of media institutions were presented by UN Resident-Coordinator
in Azerbaijan Bruno Pueza, Chairwoman of Human Rights Committee of the Milli
Majlis Rabiyyat Aslanova, Chairman of Press Committee Aflatun Amashov, Division
Head of Public and Political Issues Department of Presidential Administration of
the Republic of Azerbaijan and Deputy Chairman of the Council Tahir Suleymanov.
