The Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan will hold a conference on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the Council of Europe.

Today the Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan held solemn ceremony of announcing and awarding the winners of competition on the “Best NGO Project of 2009” and the “Best NGO Covering Media of 2009”.

Today Memorandum of Understanding on international cooperation has been signed between the Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and USAID. The Memorandum assumes cooperation in areas of learning the best international experience in public financing of NGOs and its application, strengthening NGO skills and capacities, raising public awareness on the role of civil society in Azerbaijan and possibilities of engaging NGOs in socio-economic development processes, holding grant competitions, upgrading legislative framework regulating NGO activity and others.

Memorandum of Understanding on international cooperation will be signed between the Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and USAID. The Memorandum will touch upon cooperation in areas of learning the best international experience in public financing of NGOs and its application, strengthening NGO skills and capacities, raising public awareness on the role of civil society in Azerbaijan and possibilities of engaging NGOs in socio-economic development processes, holding of grant competitions, etc.

The Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (hereinafter “the Council”) encourages NGOs to submit applications for participation in the competition.
According to the provisions of the Concept of State Support to NGOs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Council will give priorities to project proposals in the following thematic areas and topics:

INFORMATION on the results of the “Mutual relations between Azerbaijan and EU”, grant competition jointly announced by the Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (hereinafter called “the Council”) and Open Society Institute – Assistance Foundation (OSI – AF).
33 NGOs submitted project proposals for the grant competition held from October 2 till October 30, 2009. The project proposals were discussed and assessed by experts from the Council and OSI – AF. As a result, 10 project proposals, which complied with the conditions of the competition, were chosen as winners.

The Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan will hold a press conference devoted to grant competition for 2010 at 12:00 o’clock on December 8, 2009 in the building of the Trend Information Agency.

Today the Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Open Society Institute-Assistance Foundation held conference on “Effective Management, NGO Transparency and Accountability”.

The Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan is about to accomplish compiling of the “NGOs of Azerbaijan” book. This book will enhance opportunities of cooperation of government bodies, press and international organizations with NGOs of Azerbaijan and is meant to be a significant way of assisting the process of coordination and networking of NGOs. As it was noted before, the Council has begun to work over this project few months before and gathered NGO-related information from all possible sources. Information on around 1000 NGOs has been already gathered, entered into database and made ready for publishing.
